Hot Topics In Dementia Research Webinar Series

Dementia Research Network Ireland are hosting free monthly webinars on hot topics in dementia research. These webinars will provide an opportunity to hear from those working in basic science, clinical and social research as well as from people living with dementia and their families. Each one-hour webinar will include a Q&A with the audience.

Annual Older Adult Workshop (UCC)

UCC's School of Nursing & Midwifery will host its annual Older Adult Workshop on 23rd April 2020.

The theme of this years workshop is Comfort Care Concepts: Supporting decision-making for people living with dementia and their carers.

Report Launch: Dementia Post-Diagnostic Supports – A Changing Landscape

In November 2020, a forum was hosted by DRNI and the National Dementia Office to explore the current post-diagnostic landscape and discuss best practice in this area. The forum included a discussion on how to build on the recent progress made in the area of dementia post-diagnostic supports and how to ensure broad implementation for those who would most benefit from such supports.

Dementia Research Prioritisation Survey

A Dementia Research Prioritisation process has been developed by a Steering Group convened by Dementia and Neurodegeneration Network Ireland (DNNI) and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI). People with professional experience and knowledge of dementia/ dementia research were invited to participate in a survey, which is now closed. The findings will assist us to advocate for increased investment in dementia research in Ireland. 

WHO Launch Guidelines for Dementia Risk Reduction

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have published Guidelines for Risk Reduction of Cognitive Decline and Dementia. The guidelines are primarily targeted at healthcare providers and also have implications for policy-makers, healthcare planners & programme managers as well as the general public.

The guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations on lifestyle behaviours and interventions to delay or prevent cognitive decline and dementia.

Funding Irish Research for Degenerative Diseases of the Brain

Presentations available following a meeting that took place in UCC on Sat 23rd June to discuss research funding for degenerative diseases of the brain in Ireland.

More presentations will become available over the coming days and an event report will be prepared which will include recommended follow-up action points.
