6th European Conference on Clinical Neuroimaging (ECCN 2017)

Dates
-

The 2017 conference will gather physicians and researchers of all imaging modalities (PET, MRI, SPECT) under the auspices of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).
This conference will be an opportunity to review some of the major aspects of neuroimaging in neurology and psychiatry while studying new research perspectives in these fields.
It will focus on MRI, PET  imaging, as well as new imaging modalities such as PET/MR, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson's Disease, ALS, Neuroinflammation, tau imaging and other brain diseases.

11th ANNUAL DRUG DISCOVERY FOR NEURODEGENERATION CONFERENCE

Dates
-

An Educational Course on Translating Research into Drugs

This didactic conference will educate scientists on the processes of translating basic research into novel therapies and will leave participants with a strong knowledge base and relevant resources to address the associated barriers and challenges in developing a drug.

The programs will also highlight case studies of small molecule and biologics programs at different stages of development aimed at tackling challenging CNS targets relevant to neurodegenerative diseases.

Molecular Neurodegeneration

Dates
-

This course provides an overview of the molecular basis of neurodegeneration and the development of treatment strategies to combat neurodegenerative disorders. The programme will focus on several disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Fragile X, Spinocerebellar ataxia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. There are many parallels between different neurodegenerative disorders and the course will examine the common themes across neurodegenerative processes.

Research Highlight: An evaluation of community-based cognitive stimulation therapy: a pilot study with an Irish population of people with dementia

Research shows that cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) improves cognitive function, quality of life, and well-being of people with mild–moderate dementia. Despite consistent evidence and recommendations, CST is not routinely available in Ireland post-diagnosis. The aim of the current research was to develop and evaluate community-based CST for people with mild–moderate dementia, run by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland across four pilot sites in Ireland.

Methods

I'd prefer to stay at home but I don't have a choice - Meeting older people's preference for care: Policy, but what about practice?

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland recently undertook a joint research project with UCD's School of Social Work, Social Policy and Social Justice, Age Action and the Irish Association of Social Workers. The purpose of the study was to investigate the health and social care system is responding to the care needs, required supports and preferences of older people, including people with dementia.
