Research interests
Current research includes the identification of novel therapeutics and diagnostics for Alzheimer’s disease. Here, we are investigating the role of microRNAs as one of the main drivers of brain pathology and circulating microRNAs as possible early markers of Alzheimer’s disease using pre-clinical animal models (in particular animal models with tau-pathology) and clinical testing in patients.
A second major focus of our research is the study of pathological changes which occur after brain damage and which lead to the development of epileptic seizures with a strong focus on neuroinflammatory mechanism driven by purinergic signaling.
